Choosing sunscreen by destination and purpose

It is incredibly important to have good sunscreen when traveling. With proper protection, you avoid getting sunburned and premature aging of the skin, while also preventing the chance of skin cancer. But in this jungle of sunscreens, which one should you choose?

The most important thing to consider when using sunscreen while traveling is your preferences and the purpose of your trip in relation to sun exposure. You should adjust the type of sunscreen according to whether you want to sunbathe a lot, swim often, be physically active, or if you are going on a city walk.

Summer holiday

The best way to achieve a long-lasting tan is to protect well and moisturize often after sunbathing. There are also sunscreen ranges that accelerate the tanning process and help the skin maintain the tan it has achieved. Lancaster's sunscreens have a Tan Activator Complex which gives a faster, more even and deeper tan, in addition to helping the skin stay hydrated to avoid drying out. See our selection of Lancaster here.

Beach holiday

If you are going on a proper beach holiday in a pool or on the beach, it is important to find a sunscreen that is waterproof enough to still protect against radiation after swimming. P20 is already a favourite of many Norwegians, precisely because it is extremely waterproof and protects well, without feeling sticky. It is available in cream, milk and oil spray, depending on your preference. See our selection of P20 here.

Active holiday

More and more people want to spend their holidays doing physical activity. Many go to cycle along the roads of Gran Canaria, play tennis in Croatia, golf in Spain or want to do other sports around the world. When you exercise outside in the sun, you are extra vulnerable to sun damage. You sweat a lot, it is hot and the sun comes from all angles. It is therefore wise to invest in a good sports sunscreen that absorbs sweat and oil, while protecting against the sun and its radiation. The sports sunscreens from Shiseido contain a Wet-Force Technology that means that the UV protection is enhanced when the skin comes into contact with water or sweat. This sunscreen comes as a regular sunscreen in cream form, a cooling mist in spray form and a colored BB cream. See our selection from Shiseido here.

City holiday

Last but not least, many people go on city holidays where the purpose is not necessarily to get a tan and swim. But you still need to be protected. Sunscreen is at least as important in the city as on the beach. You should have a sunscreen for your body and a separate sunscreen suitable for your face to protect against sunburn, age spots and premature aging. It is important to be extra careful with your nose, lips, cheekbones, ears, shoulders and chest, as this is where the sun often hits when you walk down the street. Sunscreens for the face do not have to make your skin white and oily. If you experience this, you have simply chosen the wrong cream. You can get sunscreen for your face in many forms. There is cream, gel, oil, powder, foundation and a big favourite: face spray. Biotherm has a face spray that feels fantastic on the skin. It cools, hydrates and protects with SPF 50. It is waterproof and has an incredibly fresh and invigorating scent. You can find our selection of sunscreens from Biotherm here.

Finally, it is important to emphasize that even if you use sunscreen, you should take breaks from the sun, especially when the sun is at its strongest. In addition, you should wear the right clothing such as a sun hat and sunglasses for optimal protection. It is never too late to acquire good habits when it comes to the sun, and this is something you will definitely thank yourself for later.
