Your skincare routine in 5 steps

Healthy skin has a firm, smooth surface, is fresh and has an even skin tone. Here are 5 simple tips for your skincare routine that will help you achieve and maintain healthy skin.

Why skincare?

There are three main reasons why a simple daily skincare routine is good for you:

  1. Daily skincare protects and maintains healthy skin.
  2. Daily skincare balances and repairs imbalanced skin.
  3. Daily skincare counteracts aging, reduces lines and firms.

Here's how:

Step 1: Cleansing

A makeup remover helps you get rid of makeup and dirt on the skin and should be used before cleansing the rest of the face. Oil-based cleansers remove makeup, dirt, sebum and sunscreen. Water-based cleansers cleanse deeply. If we don't cleanse our skin, we can get gray and flaky skin, clogged sebaceous glands and/or enlarged pores.

Step 2: Toner and lotion

Toners balance the pH and prepare the skin for the next step. Toners and lotions are liquid and you apply them with a cotton pad and LIGHTLY wipe over the face to remove any remaining cleanser.

Step 3: Serums and essences

Essences renew skin cells and deeply moisturize, while serums treat wrinkles, acne, etc. Both are applied after cleansing, have a higher proportion of active ingredients than creams and work deeper into the skin. They work together with day and night creams, which you apply after serums. A serum should not be used alone as it does not care for the outer layers of the skin.

Step 4: Eye cream and face cream

Eye cream protects and moisturizes the delicate area around the eyes and reduces dark circles and bags under the eyes. The skin around the eyes ages faster as it is ¼ the thickness of the rest of the skin on the face. Moisturizer seals in moisture and gives the skin a natural glow. Sunscreen protects the skin from dangerous UV rays, year-round. While we sleep, the body works to repair and heal itself. Night cream is richer than a day cream as the skin is more receptive to the nourishing and active ingredients at night. Night cream works in the outer layers of the skin.

Step 5: Scrub and mask

One to three times a week we need to exfoliate the skin further than a cleanser can do. Use a peel or scrub. These deeply cleanse, add moisture, while effectively removing dead skin cells. In addition, a scrub opens and cleanses your pores. You get healthier, smoother and glowing skin. A mask improves the skin and provides maximum moisture. Masks are in the wind like never before and are available in countless forms such as sheet masks, peel-off, and the traditional cream masks. They can be used anywhere from 5 minutes to overnight. Here you just have to find your own favourite.
