Take care of your hands

Is the skin on your hands itchy? Does it feel tight, dry and cracked? This is normal at this time of year, but we have some good advice on how to take care of your hands this autumn.

We have become good at washing our hands and may do so more often now than before. We have learned that hands must be washed well with soap and water, often and thoroughly and especially after we have been out among people. It is of course absolutely necessary to use hand soap, but frequent use can dry out the skin on the hands. In addition, we are now transitioning into a new season and with the cold autumn air often comes drier skin. Of course, we cannot and must not stop washing our hands with hand soap and we cannot stop the autumn weather. But there are some tips to counteract and repair dry and cracked skin:

Keep hand cream readily available next to hand soap:

To make it easier to remember to care for your hands, it can be smart to have a hand cream on the sink next to the hand soap. Then the hand cream becomes part of the ritual and eventually the lubrication will happen by itself. A hand cream adds moisture to the skin and strengthens the skin's natural moisture barrier, it stops the itching that comes with dry skin and reduces redness.

Take hand cream with you on the go:

Nourishing hand creams of course come in nice small sizes too, which are much more practical to take with you on the go. You can get hand creams in such small sizes that you can even fit them in your pocket. It is also smart to choose hand creams that are light in consistency. This way you don't have to worry about your hands being sticky and oily during the day's activities, the really rich hand creams you can apply before going to bed at night.

Use a good anti-bac:

When soap and water are not available, we have to resort to anti-bac to clean our hands. But did you know that there is a difference between the types? It is important to look for ethanol-based anti-bac, in addition, you actually moisturize your hands if it also contains glycerol. That way, the solution does not easily dry out the skin on your hands on the go.

Hopefully these tips can help you keep your hands well moisturized going forward while adhering to the infection control advice to wash your hands frequently.
