Tequila & Mezcal

Tequila is a spirit produced from the agave plant and comes from Mexico. The authorities in the country have made strict regulations for what can be called tequila and how it should be made. A tequila must contain a minimum of 51% alcohol made from blue agave. It can be shiny, golden, barrel aged or flavoured with additional favourngs. Tequila can be consumed alone or mixed in a variety of drinks, such as margarita, tequila sunrise and tequila slammers. Mezcal comes from Mexico, and is made from agave. What distinguishes mezcal and tequila is the method of production, the type of agave used and the region from which they come. Mezcal is produced either as glossy, golden or barrel aged. Oak barrels are used to store tequila and mezcal.
